Independent journalism is a cornerstone of democratic participation and informed public debate. Yet transnational perspectives, post-migrant realities and issues connected to the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa) are often underrepresented or insufficiently contextualised in mainstream coverage. Amargi e.V., a public-interest, non-commercial media organisation, addresses this gap by creating learning spaces, pooling expertise and amplifying marginalised voices.
The programme aims to strengthen core journalistic competencies, develop critical media practice, improve the ability to identify and respond to disinformation, and build sustainable transnational networks between Europe and the MENA region.
Structure & content
In-person phase in Leipzig: three consecutive weekend workshop modules
Online follow-ups & mentoring: several online sessions supporting participants’ own projects
Core modules: research methods, verification and fact-checking, source evaluation, disinformation awareness, the role of journalism in democracy, and public-interest journalism
Digital focus: social media journalism, digital publics, opportunities and risks of digital innovation (including ethical aspects of AI)
Hands-on production: multimedia storytelling (e.g., podcast, video, data journalism) with structured feedback and peer learning
We look forward to your interest and invite you to further develop your journalistic skills through structured transnational exchange. More information on dates and how to apply will follow soon.
